OPTUS ITF NOTTING HILL INTERNATIONAL

I must say that this years Championship was just outstanding. With over 80 volunteers from the club working closely with Steve Walker and the staff at Tennis Australia the event almost went off with out a hitch. The only hic-up being, high heat and humidity on the last day causing the girls doubles final to first being delayed and finally shifted to Albert Park where a cool sea breeze greeted the players and officials. Marilyn Belzer was the Commander in Chief once again and a wonderful leader she is proving to be. With many rallying around and helping the tasks were not so burdensome. For those unaware the events the finalists and winners were as follows:

Boys Singles Championship:

Thiemo De Baker (NED)
defeated
Ivan Sergeyev (UKR) 6-2, 7-5

Girls Singles Championship:

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova RUS)
defeated
Sorana-Mihaela Cirstea (ROM) 6-3, 6-4

Boys Doubles Championship:

Lee (AUS) & Symons (AUS)
defeated
De Bakker (NED) & Sidorenko (FRA) 6-4, 6-4

Girls Doubles Championship:

Backsinsky (SUI) & Schoofs (NED)
defeated
Cibulkova (SVK) & Rodina (RUS) 6-1, 3-6

These names will be added to the newly built Honor Board. What a talking point this board has that proved to be. Both during and after the event. Such names, often not winning but still have gone on.
For those who helped thank you, for the club cannot continue to develop the site and repair it’s facilities with out the funds without this marvelous event. Thank you Tennis Australia for your ongoing support. For those with their diaries close at hand next year’s event is scheduled for: 13th – 20th January. No doubt we will have our customary working bee prior to and our pack up day after. Once again thank you to all, a great job done in fine style.
